Hey OpenGuitar community. Glad to see you reading the Bulletin #3. It's been a while since the last time.
We are currently figuring out what in the OpenGuitar ecosystem is a public good, what is a Commons and what is a club good and what is private. The idea is to transform the OpenGuitar project into a cyber-physical Commons with Alas DAO as the governance structure. Here are some of the steps we already have taken and a lot of work ahead. Enjoy reading!
🌱 Trusted Seed of the Commons Stack
The Commons Stack helps communities to build microeconomies to sustain public goods through incentive alignment, continuous funding and community governance.
The Trusted Seed of the Commons Stack is a community of altruistic experts in the Token Engineering / decentralized governance / web3 space helping communies in the launch of new DAOs/Commons to ensure initial token distributions land with trusted and reputable actors in the ecosystem.
Our motivation to join the Trusted Seed of the Commons Stack is to build resilient communities around cyber-physical commons for the OpenGuitar ecosystem. We are grateful that our membership as a Trusted Seed of the Commons Stack was accepted and supported via this Scholarship for Commons Stack Association.
⛑️ Hacking the Alas! Community Aid

We believe the web is moving away from attention as its business model toward creator economies. In the DAOhacks hackathon we worked on programmable cashflows budgets that can be distributed between individual contributors e.g. to a musical track or in every creative project you can imagine. To support creator economies we designed the Superfluid community aid - a dapp that distributes funds to reward musical collaboration.
Tradeble cashflows can be created by assigning an NFT to a collaborator. Owners of the NFT can organize cashflows budgets by sharing, selling or splitting the NFT with a follow-up collaborator. This is a fascinating new use case in Web3 - improve DAO coordination by allocating budgets to working groups using programmable networked cashflows.
Example workflow for programmable cashflows budgets
Another interesting use case for Superfluid is DAO treasury diversification to secure funds by streaming your DAO token into a Gnosis Safe. We might tackle this in our next hackathon participation.
If you are interested in Web3 tech and think about to teaming up with us in an upcoming hackathon, please let us know.
💫 Rewards Systems Research
Together with the TokenEngineering Academy we started studying DAO rewards systems in 3-months program from Nov 16, 2021 to Feb 24, 2022. Together with other Governauts and TokenEngineers we learned about incentives design for cryptoeconomic systems in a DAO context.
In the Final presentations of the DAO Rewards Systems Research Initiative in February 2022 the team 3dots presented their general purpose model to test funding policies for ecosystem health: Impact of funding policy on network health.
We’d love to explore engineering crypto-economic systems more and learn about contextual reward systems and the creation of a community currency, how reputation in the ecosystem can be handled, how work is acknowledged by your fellow workers and how the overall ecosystem health is a coarse-grained meassure for success in a DAO context.

The TE Academy builds the first comprehensive education & certification program in Token Engineering, free and available online around the globe. If you are interested you can register now for the upcoming research track on Token Engineering Fundamentals.
🐣 Creating a Regenerative Commons
Commons Stack is on a mission to research and build concepts and tools needed for sustainable and robust Commons. After our partnership with Token Engineering Commons we are ready to deploy a Commons ourselfes. The Commons Prize program will determine which Commons is chosen. All submissions will be up for vote and the Trusted Seed will decide on the winner. The winning community will work closely with Commons Stack team.
We want to transform the OpenGuitar project into a cyber-physical Commons with Alas DAO as the governance structure. The Commons Stack team offers 9-12 months of their time to deploy the cultural and technical modules for Commons. This is exciting news for any Blockchain4Good DAO.
We registered for the Commons Prize. The winner shortlisted from up to 5 communities will be selected to kick off the next regenerative Commons economy. Interested DAOs must be able to prove that they are a “Regen Economy”, i.e., are creating a positive impact for society such as by supporting or building public goods.
Please contact us if you are interested to kickstart a RegenFarm with us or want to apply as a steward for our Cyber-Physical Commons.
🎨 @NiftyInk designs POG with POAPathon
Together with artists from the nifty.ink community we helped designing POGs for the ETHDenver POAPathon running in November 2021. The best designs have been selected to be minted as physical NFT - a POG. Shoutout to superphiz, Daniel Sheldon and Adam Fuller for the good vibes in the judging process. It was fun!

If you are in Amsterdam on Tue, 19 April 2022 please join us in the Hacker House with Azuro, Gnosis Chain and Nifty.Ink community.

🙌🏻 OpenGuitar Livecoding Algorave
144 livecoding artists celebrated the 10th birthday of Algorave in a 48 hour marathon. OpenGuitar joined the party with a 10 minute performance using the livecoding language TidalCycles. The amount of creativity in the LiveCoding culture is just amazing. We plan to integrate livecoding with OpenGuitar more in the future.

After completing the steward nomination at ENS DAO four workgroups have been created and work has started. The steward selection process for 🗳️ Meta-Governance, ENS ecosystem, Community and Public Goods workgroups used token-based voting on Snapshot. It was a nice experience to see how collective decisions can be coordinated using Web3 tooling. If you are part of ENS, don't forget to claim your tokens and choose your ENS delegates. You have time until May 4th.
We joined the Funding the commons workshop via ProtocolLabs and used quadratic voting to vote on agenda items for the RxC monthly calls - collective decision-making, by allocating votes that express the degree of your preferences, not just direction. If you have not seen Glen Weyl’s article WHY I AM A PLURALIST, please be sure to check it out.
Konglomerat is a project of open lab spaces in Dresden - a community of like-minded people and a coalition of projects that will together advance a specific mission: make digital fabrication tools accessible for everyone. We are glad to present Alas DAO on the occasion of the 10th birthday on Konglomerat in June. Stay tuned for updates!
💝 Thank you and keep up the good work!
This covers the Alas DAO Bulletin #3. Web3 space is moving fast and we hope you can sustain your work in a healthy ecosystem of co-workers.
Livia’s talk at ETH Denver (Cultural Build: A Framework for Self-Actualizing Economies - Livia Deschermayer) provided me with a motivation to apply Ostrom principles that is not focused on existing communities but the creation of new ones. Community building turned out to be the biggest challenge in our Web3 journey since March 2021. Sadly enough recent developments tought us that even peace still can not be taken for granted. This slowed us down. But we can not stop now. Alas! What are some examples of positive externalities for the world?
